Nurturing Christ-Centered Identity Through Wilderness Experience

Wilderness Canoe Base is a camp situated on two islands on Seagull Lake near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. We offer canoe trips, building crews, island camp, and year-round retreats. Accredited by the American Camp Association and affiliated with Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp, Wilderness aims to give campers both youth and adult an opportunity to experience God's creation and all its wonders. The effect of the Wilderness is profound, strengthening faith and deepening appreciation for life. Wilderness Canoe Base provides a rustic and simple atmosphere away from the rush of everyday life. It is a time to unplug and discover the joy in new experiences. All summer programming at Wilderness Canoe Base includes time for reflection, bible study, team-building, and nature appreciation.

Wilderness Canoe Base operates within the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), a federally designated Wilderness area over 1 million acres in size located on the Superior National Forest in Minnesota and bordering Quetico Provincial Park in Canada. As the BWCAW is a part of the U. S. National Wilderness Preservation System, there are several rules and regulations you need to be aware of to help preserve this unique place. Please visit the following website for further information: http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/superior/bwcaw/.

Wilderness Canoe Base follows all rules and regulations regarding our use of the BWCAW, including the philosophy of "Leave No Trace." All rules and regulations specific to the BWCAW are explained to all group members upon arrival at Wilderness Canoe Base by the assigned guide/counselor. All canoe groups are required to have a permit, which is obtained by Wilderness Canoe Base prior to groups' arrival and is signed by Adult Advisors prior to leaving on trail. Special Recreation Permits (Wilderness permits) are issued by the United States Forest Service as a means to ensure extra measures are required for natural and cultural resource protection, the health and safety of visitors, or to allocate capacity and/or disperse recreation use. Applicable permit fees are included in the price of a canoe trip through Wilderness Canoe Base.
