Volunteers

Now is the time to volunteer – with the Ham Lake fire and the rebuilding efforts you have a chance to impact the camp with your hands in a significant way. Contact the Base and ask for Peter Eichten if you want to help rebuild after the Fire!

Volunteering at Wilderness Canoe Base gives you an opportunity as a friend or past staff of the Base a chance to come up to a land and a community you long ago fell in love with.  Volunteers are as much a part of the Base’s community as our staff. Opportunities range from dedicated work weekends to week-long stays to long-term roles with specific responsibilities. Volunteers are welcome to visit and work in groups or as individuals.
Your presence on camp not only inspires you in the present but also fills you up with memories of the past.  You may share stories of years gone by and get time to tell us where Jesus has lead you since.  For some of you it is a chance to just get down and dirty swinging hammers, pick axes and paint.  Below is an ongoing list of annual volunteer needs.  If you don’t find anything here that whets you appetite, call us because we always have places for you to share your gifts, talents and hard work.  If you cannot visit us in person at least bring us before the throne of grace in prayer.

  • Sewing Duluth Packs
  • Fixing tents, quilts, camp stoves, camping gear
  • Tearing down and remodeling cabins
  • Clearing trails
  • Cooking during staff training the end of May beginning of June.
  • Help opening camp up in the Spring
  • Help closing camp down in the Fall
  • Preparing summer trail food in the Spring
  • Building maintenance (windows, doorways, building siding)

Expectations:

  • You undoubtedly have gifts and talents you once shared with the camp.  We hope you will let us know what those are so we can match your gifts with our needs.
  • We ask you work at least half the time you spend on base on projects the Camp Manager will oversee.  Please call ahead to set up those projects.
  • Pay $7.00 per meal – lodging is free!
Benefits:  Endless…
