Our staff will be waiting to welcome you at the Base.  Your experience will begin with a short paddle in our 36-foot Voyageur canoe across Seagull Lake to the Base camp.  There, your group will be housed in one of our cabins.  The afternoon will be filled with pre-trip activities.  Your nature hike, paddling skills, and “swim and swamp” lessons will give you and introduction to the knowledge and skills necessary for your Northwoods journey.  Each group also attends a health and safety orientation with our heath supervisor, plan out a desired route with your guide and be invited to join in our evening vespers worship service.  Your group will be ready to leave the next morning, soon after a hearty breakfast.
While on trail some groups will want to push hard and cover a lot of territory while others may prefer to travel slowly and perhaps drop a fishing line in the water. The Boundary Water's lakes are connected by walking paths and when you encounter one it is time to portage. This means that you and your group will walk all of your gear and canoes from one lake to the next. Each day on trail also means that you will have the chance to participate in First and Last word. Each morning begins with a devotion to set the tone for the day, while each evening affords the group a chance to reflect on the activities of the day. The time between First and Last word can include any of the following: paddling, fishing, Bible study, solitude, team building, rock climbing, swimming or reading. Guides do their best to fulfill the needs of each group based on conversations with the youth and adult advisor.

After completing a trip, your group will clean your trail gear and canoes, relax in a traditional Finnish sauna, shower and meet with some of our staff to tell stories and reflect on your trail experience.
